Mailchimp

What it is

Mailchimp sends newsletters and email campaigns. A small business keeps its mailing list, signup forms and campaign reports there.

How an agent connects

Approved route: audience counts and campaign reports the owner exports to CSV, or Zapier or n8n triggers in the owner's account. The Marketing API through an OAuth app the owner approves is allowed once the gateway holds the token. Not approved: API keys (they open the whole account), community MCP servers, building or sending campaigns, adding or removing contacts.

Mailchimp publishes an MCP server, but it only searches Mailchimp's developer documentation. It cannot reach an account's lists or campaigns. For account data there is no official MCP server.

1. The Marketing API. It takes an API key or OAuth 2.0. An API key opens the whole account, so only OAuth through an app the owner approves is used, with the token held by the gateway.
2. Export of an audience or a campaign report to CSV from Mailchimp's screens. This is the safest start.
3. Zapier or n8n, both of which list Mailchimp.

The registry lists community Mailchimp servers from individual developers and hosted gateways. We do not recommend them for a client's mailing list.

What agents may do

Read: campaign drafts, schedule, audience counts, tags and reports, for a pre-send check or a results summary. The agent may write campaign copy as a draft outside Mailchimp. Building, scheduling and sending a campaign, and adding or removing contacts, are done by a person.

Through the gateway

The gateway has no Mailchimp action yet, and the agent never holds a token or key. Campaign text the agent writes goes to the owner as manual.draft; the owner pastes it into Mailchimp and sends it. A change to the list can go as webhook.post to an automation the owner set up, always held. Sends and unsubscribes are never automated.

Watch out for

• A mailing list is personal data, and US anti-spam law covers every send. Never add contacts the business has no permission to email.
• Do not export a full audience into an agent's workspace when counts or a sample will do.
• Campaign reports include subscriber activity. Summarise; do not paste raw rows into prompts.
