Retainers in plain words

After an internship is completed, the business can keep its intern on a monthly retainer through us. What the business pays and gets, what the intern keeps, and what a retainer is not.

A retainer is how a business keeps the intern who built its system after the internship is completed. The business pays us $750 a month for 30 hours of the intern's work each month, and we pay the intern 80% of it.

When it is offered

The offer is made when the internship is completed, once the owner has recorded the outcome. It is the business's choice. A retainer is a chance, not a promise, like a job or a referral.

For the business

  • 30 hours of the intern's work each month, for $750 per month.
  • Maintenance is included: fixes when a model or an app changes, and the small changes that keep the system running, come out of the monthly hours.
  • Anything new is scoped in writing before work starts.
  • A bench of other trained interns answers urgent requests when your intern cannot.
  • You can cancel monthly; there is no long contract.
  • We are your contracting party: you sign the retainer with us and we bill you. We pay the intern.
  • The gateway rules stay: approvals, the log, Pause all, and no passwords shared.

Hiring the intern directly stays free of any fee to us.

For the intern

  • You keep 80% of every month that is billed.
  • You can hold up to 4 retainers at once, each with a business that has already seen your work.
  • You work through our gateway, as in your internship, with the bench behind you.
  • We handle the contract and the billing, so you never chase an invoice.

The internship itself stays unpaid. The students page shows a worked example of what one, two or more retainers would come to at today's numbers. It is an example, not a promise of income.

Where to read more

  • "For students" in the header has the band "After the internship".
  • "For US businesses" in the header has the section "Keep your intern".
  • What the programme is, for both sides

One programme with two sides: people who learn to build AI agents and then intern, and US businesses that post a real problem for an intern to build.
