At the end of the internship the business owner records the outcome and can attach a reference letter. You see both on your internship page.
How it ends
When you have handed the work over, the owner records one of four outcomes:
- "Hired": the business hired you.
- "Paid contract": the business kept you on a paid contract.
- "Not hired": you leave with a shipped project and a reference letter.
- "Ended early": the internship ended before the planned finish.
We can record the outcome too, for example if the business stops replying.
You get the email "Your internship with" the business's name "is recorded", with any note from the owner.
Download your reference letter
- Open "Internship" in the menu at the top.
- Under "Outcome", press "Download your reference letter".
- The download link is made fresh each time and works for a few minutes.
If the page says "There is no reference letter for this internship yet", the owner did not attach one. You can ask them for it: the owner can attach a letter on their project page after the internship is completed, or replace the one there.
When they do, you get the email that the business "wrote you a reference letter" (or "replaced your reference letter"), and the new letter is the one you download.
Had more than one placement? The internship page shows the newest. For the others, open "Your placements" on the course home or on "Your account": each placement with a letter has "Download the reference letter", and "Review and letter" opens the internship page.
Share the milestone
Once the internship is completed, "Share this milestone" takes you to your public page, where you can share it on LinkedIn. Your public page shows the outcome only if you tick "Your internship outcome, once it is completed" in its settings.
What comes next
- Referrals. The owner can refer you to other businesses. See Referrals and withdrawing them.
- The placements listing. You can choose to show the placement on the site. See The placements listing.
- Another placement. Optional: the guide offers "Want more depth? Add another business" while you can add one, at a business you have not worked with. If you already paid for one, we match you for it now. See Extra placements at other businesses.
- If it ended early for reasons that are not about you, the internship card on the course home says we will look at placing you again. If you want to talk it through, write to hello@aiharnesslabs.com.
A job, a contract or a referral is a chance, not a promise.
