When you complete an internship, the project page offers to keep the intern on a monthly retainer. We are the contracting party: you pay us, we pay the intern, and a backup intern from our bench answers if something urgent comes up and your intern has not.
What a retainer is
- Up to 30 hours a month of the intern's work: keeping what was built running, and new automations scoped in writing first.
- $750 a month, billed monthly in advance. Hours do not roll over.
- The agent keeps working through the gateway with the tokens and stage it had at the end of the internship. Your approvals, limits and "Pause all" stay as they were.
- You cancel any time with 14 days' notice.
The full terms are the Retainer Agreement.
Accept the offer
- Complete the internship with your written review (see Completing an internship).
- The "Keep your intern" card appears on the project page. It stays there for 30 days after completion, with "Offer still open until" and the date.
- Tick "I have read the Retainer Agreement and accept it for my business."
- Press the button "Keep ... on a retainer", with your intern's name.
We record the agreement's version and the time, and email the intern. The retainer starts when the intern accepts and the first month is paid. If they have not accepted after 7 days, we email you.
Pay each month
Open "Retainers" in your dashboard menu and then the retainer.
- When card payment is switched on, press "Pay by card". It sets up a monthly subscription through Stripe that renews until you cancel.
- Otherwise we send an invoice each month; pay it by bank transfer and we mark the month paid.
If a month is still unpaid we email you on day 1 and day 5. On day 7 the retainer pauses: the intern stops and the agent's tokens are switched off until the month is paid. Paying resumes it the same day.
Hours, requests and notes
- "This month" shows the hours used, what is left, and the date the next month starts. The log under it shows each entry with the intern's note. "Months:" under the log opens an earlier month's hours.
- Entries are never edited or deleted. When the intern (during the month) or we correct one, the entry shows its corrected hours with "Corrected from" the old value "to" the new one and the reason, and the month's total follows.
- "Requests": choose "Urgent", "New automation" or "Question", describe it and press "Send the request". Urgent goes to your intern at once and, if nobody acknowledges it within 4 hours, to the backup and to us. For a new automation the intern replies with a scope note before starting.
- "What to automate next": about once a quarter the intern writes a short note of what they would automate next.
At the end of each month we email a statement: the hours, what was done from the notes, and the next month's date, with one question, "How did this month go?", answered with one click from 1 to 5.
Your contact and help
Every retainer page names your contact at AI Harness Labs and has "Ask us anything" when we have a support address. We reply within one working day.
Cancel
Under "Cancel", tick the box and press "Give notice". The retainer runs to the end of the first month that ends at least 14 days later, and nothing is billed after that. Before the first month is paid, cancelling ends it at once and nothing is owed.
If you pay by card, we tell Stripe at the same time: your subscription stops after the retainer's last month, and the page says "Your card subscription stops then; nothing is charged after it." If we end a retainer at once, the subscription is cancelled at once, with no further charge. Months already paid are not refunded.
