An intern is matched to a project once it has a brief. Interns are trainees whose capstone has been approved; they are placed in the order they finish.
Automatic matching
Projects that started from an app idea on "Build instead of renting" or a workflow design are matched automatically. As soon as you approve the proposal, and its needed facts are confirmed, we assign the free learner whose capstone was approved first.
Matching by hand
Every other project is matched by hand: after the brief is agreed, we pick a learner whose capstone fits and assign them. Projects you posted on the form are scoped on our call first.
What decides when
- Facts. A project from the interview waits until its seven needed facts are confirmed. See The facts page.
- The cap. You can have up to 5 internships active at a time. A new one can start when one ends.
- A free intern. Someone has to have finished their capstone and not be on another internship.
The waiting message
"No intern is free right now. We will email you the moment one is assigned."
It means your project is ready and in the queue. Nothing more is needed from you. Projects wait in the order they joined the queue (once approved and their facts confirmed), and the next approved capstone takes the one that has waited longest. A daily check also catches any that were missed.
You get the email "Your project is waiting for an intern" once, when the project starts waiting.
When you are matched
You get the email "Your project has a trainee", with the intern's name and email, the brief, and an "Open the project" button. The project's status becomes "Matched", and the page says your trainee will write to you this week to set up the first call.
Before the intern sees anything beyond the brief, you and the intern each accept the Mutual NDA on your project page ("Sign the NDA"); it is filled in with your names. See The agreements and the NDA.
Status labels on your projects page
- "New": we will email you within 2 working days to set up the scoping call.
- "Scoped": a brief is agreed and we are choosing a trainee.
- "Matched": your trainee will write to you this week.
- "In progress": the internship has started.
- "Completed".
- "Declined": we could not take the project on. Our email explains why.
